20th Annual DOTF Iron Pour

  • Down on the Farm Decorah, IA United States (map)

My annual pilgrimage to Decorah, IA has been happening for 13 years and is booked out for at least the next 10, because this event is THAT important to me.

Always scheduled around the 4th of July weekend, Down on the Farm is a metal caster’s retreat to joining up with like-minded artists, engineers and folks from any variety of backgrounds to engage in the creative processes that surround the foundry practice.

It’s the ultimate opportunity to discuss the different approaches used in experimental pattern building techniques, mix and throw several tons of sand molds together, exchange furnace prep and foundry floor operation strategies and ultimately cast several tons of complex, large or delicate iron pieces in a very primitive, yet supported setting.

Aside from talking shop, we eat some of the best meals we’ve had all year long, and it’s guaranteed that you’ll find a new friend or maybe four each new year of this event.

Open to the public and welcoming for both experienced and totally novice metal casters, this annual event is the place to be for a summer schooling opportunity to deepen your love and knowledge of the foundry arts.

Come get lost in the corn fields & go hunting for the biggest berry inside the giant raspberry patch here on the farm!! You’ll never be the same after this pour, and it’s a chance to allow your creative self to really take a plunge into an immersive weekend of good vibes.
