The PYHO (Pour’n Yer Heart Out) community iron casting event will be celebrating its 15th year in production on Saturday, February 17, 2024 hosted at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, WI. This radical winter gathering brings together artisans from all across the Midwest to pour over 3,000 lbs of molten iron into a wide variety of molds made during workshops in our community and by professional foundry (metal casting) artists who created their molds ahead of time and are traveling into town to get them cast and help with the event.

The results showcase the phenomenal creativity within our community, and the incredible ability of artisans to create highly detailed iron castings in the middle of a park-like setting, during the dead of winter.

Affectionately called “The Woodstock of Iron Pours”, Down on the Farm is a radical gathering of artists from across the United States who setup camp on the Ludeking’s family farmstead in Decorah, IA for a week of free range mold making and exchanging trade secrets around the foundry arts.

The 2023 PYHO (Pourin’ Yer Heart Out) community iron pour event turns 14 this year, where the FeLion tribe of artisans comes together from all across the Midwest and beyond to pour over 3,000 lbs of molten iron at the beautiful Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, WI on Saturday February 18, 2023.

Free and open to the public with 2 community workshops available before hand, anyone can come to make something radically unique or just enjoy the spectacle of iron casting at Olbrich’s annual Open House with indoor activities on site.

This collaborative behind-the-scenes experience exhibits how to accomplish metal casting using a cupola-style iron furnace and a large team of regional professional artists who show up to throw down and melt over a ton of cast iron into sand molds. Come jump into the flames of winter’s hottest event, meet the artists during a special gallery show at Canvas Gallery inside Garver Feed Mill next door, and join us at any of the workshops ahead.

As newbie’s to the village of Waunakee, it’s an honor to be taking part of yet another awesome festival in town by way of casting aluminum for community members interested in making something radically unique with their hands.

We are hosting 2 workshops leading up to the event, and casting everyone’s creations with molten aluminum during Heritage Fest at Schumacher Farm Park, in Waunakee WI on Sept. 11, 2022.

I’m happy to partner with the Village of Waunakee to be part of the 2022 Wisconsin Regional Art Program’s (WRAP) spring workshop, offering an aluminum casting opportunity for exhibiting artists and community members to try their hands at mold making, and leave with a cast aluminum art piece.

WRAP is a state-wide opportunity for nonprofessional, student, and emerging artists to create and exhibit their work across Wisconsin. As part of each exhibition, there is a workshop offered, which this year will be an aluminum pour at the Waunakee Library on May, 14, 2022.

Our 12th annual “Pour’n Yer Heart Out” community metal casting event is undoubtedly going to look different this year, but we’re planning a virtual version of our popular winter event that still allows for our community to get their hands working and able to make something radically unique in a safe, connected way.

With our various virtual workshops and live-streamed aluminum pour event at our studio, we are honored to offer a fresh lineup of creative solutions to keep our annual winter pour workshops happening, even amidst a pandemic.

The 2020 PYHO iron pour is “going to 11” this year, as our radical indoor/outdoor winter event hits the 11th annual landmark, and it’s being held at the beautiful Olbrich Botanical Gardens, on the Great Lawn inside the property. Free and open to the public to come and watch, and over a month of workshops to choose from, the spectacle will be hotter than ever as we prepare to light up our furnace inside the gardens’ grounds and kickoff their 2020 Elements theme celebration with an open house for the new Learning Center on site.

FeLion Studios collaborates with some of the Midwest's best metal artists, makers and local businesses in order to melt and cast hot iron all day during the region's coldest season.

We have community workshops over a month in advance of the big event to jump into if you are feeling frisky. The day long event has it all: live music, cash bar, molten metal and an after party inside the Garver Feed Mill next door to Olbrich Gardens, where this whole shee-bang takes place. 

We’re coming back to Cambridge, WI this summer to light up our furnace for another spectacular community iron pour event during the 4th annual Midwest Fire Fest. Community mold making workshops, kids classes and open studio workshops are just a few ways to get involved and make something radically unique. Stay tuned for the 2019 workshop schedule coming June 1, 2019.

It’s been a while since a public pour has happened in Milwaukee, but this year it’s coming back, and we’ll be there to help celebrate the heat and flow of the day’s event. Join us during the inaugural pour of a new furnace built by fellow iron artists Leah Schrettenthaler and Tom Dahlseid, while this open up the process to the public and invite in students of the craft to make new art works and run their new cupola at Lynden Sculpture Garden.

Meet a rock star crew of Midwestern metal casting artists as they create original iron castings all day. Enjoy music, local beer tastings and of course the after party inside the Crucible Night Club, where this whole shee-bang takes place. 

Join us in Dekalb, IL this fall during the first Mini Maker Faire at Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center. Learn how to create a totally unique cast aluminum relief sculpture that you make and take that day. Carve your own design into pre-made sand mould blanks that we will fill with molten aluminum on site, and learn about the process of casting metal.  

This is a FREE first come, first serve kind of opportunity and supplies are limited, so be sure to stop by before this popular activity runs out of metal & molds for the day.

It's February and that means it's time to plan on coming to our epic winter melt-down and menagerie of artisans, DIY'ers and makers of all sorts.

The 9th annual Pour'n Yer Heart Out community iron pour event is happening on February 10th, 2018 at Sector 67 on Madison's east side. It's a spectacular community gathering where the public meets our process, and people get to celebrate some thing hot during the coldest time of year.

Sand Mould Workshop @Sector67 

February 3, 2018 from 11am - 1 pm

Choose which of 3 types of sand moulds you would like to work on during this 2 hour (optional) workshop at the event space inside Sector67. This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about the carving process, boundaries and options within reductive sand carving processes. 

The FeLion Studios crew will be on hand to inspire, answer questions and help you create something incredibly unique for the upcoming iron pour on February 11th 2017. 

FeLion Studios will bring all the tools and sand moulds necessary to successfully complete your design in the pre-formed sand mould blanks. All you need is your imagination and maybe a picture or sketch if you are going for something specific.
