It’s still happening!!

We are so pumped to announce that our most popular community event will be happening on February 20th, 2021. But most notably, one of the biggest changes outside of all of the virtual experiences for our 12th annual PYHO event, will be the switch to pouring aluminum in place of pouring iron. This decision comes out of the importance to keep our community + network of artisans safe, while still considering the logistics of being able to create lots of art pieces with the community, but using a much smaller setup and less people to run it.

With aluminum, we will be able to pour a similar volume of molds that we have done at iron pours in the past, except it won’t require over 50+ artisans to help us run it like with the iron furnace, and we can safely do that at the FeLion Studios HQ without moving the whole operation offsite, as restrictions to gather are still limited in Dane County, due to Covid-19. Needless to say, we still love iron the most, but a walk onto the light side with aluminum has lots of fun new opportunities that come with it.

2021 PYHO Workshops

Choose from at-home sand carving workshops, or challenge yourself in the clay modeling relief sculpture class that you can take from the comfort of your kitchen table. All classes for the 2021 Pour’n Yer Heart Out community aluminum pour are virtual tutorials with a live Q&A to help you create a uniquely custom design that will cast nicely at the live stream event on February 20th, 2020.

At-Home Sand Mold Carving Workshops

Carve a unique design onto a blank sand mold

Hosted in tandem with Olbrich Botanical Gardens, these virtual, at-home sand mold carving workshops will get your hands and mind working towards something radically unique no matter what skillet level you are at.

Purchase a workshop ticket on Olbrich Botanical Gardens event page, and pickup your blank sand mold at the Olbrich Gardens lobby any day before the class. Bring it home and join the workshop to get inspired, learn about the boundaries and techniques for carving sand molds, and see what is possible to create inside this unique mold making opportunity. Participants are welcome to begin carving before the class or just get started with us at the only sand mold carving workshops available for this year’s winter pour.

Finished sand molds must be brought back to Olbrich Botanical Gardens lobby by February 13th, so that we can prepare them to be cast at the aluminum pour event on February 20, 2021.

Clay Modeling Workshops

Create a highly detailed relief sculpture cast in aluminum

The at-home clay modeling workshops are an opportunity to take your creative ideas to another level of detail + design within the cast metal opportunity. Our live tutorial & Q&A workshops are designed to help participants fine tune their ideas, learn from others, ask questions and create the most successful castings possible for this event.

Everyone in these workshops come from different skill levels and areas of expertise. This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning something new or taking practiced ideas into a new medium in 2021!

We’ve created special material + tool kits for this unique virtual workshop for participants to pick-up locally ahead of the class date at the Olbrich Botanical Garden’s lobby. For our out-of-town guests we can easily ship the kit out ahead of time, and finished clay pieces will be shipped back to Olbrich Botanical gardens.

The finished clay models from workshops must be dropped off (or shipped back ) no later than February 13th to Olbrich Botanical Gardens, so that the FeLion team can make your sand mold and prepare the creation for metal casting

Do-It-Yourself Sand Molds

For those who aren't the workshop type, we have a variety of different pre-formed sand mold blanks that you can purchase, pick-up at Olbrich, and take home to work on at your leisure anytime before the day of the community aluminum pour event. Scope out the sand mold options and place your order for these hot little items.
