Here it is!! Our annual Pour'n Yer Heart Out community iron pour is rounding into its 8th year here in Madison, Wisconsin, and we couldn't be more thrilled about this one!
Happening again on the parking lot at Sector67, this year will be special as we melt 2,000 lbs of cast iron bath tubs, radiators and what not for the *LAST TIME* at this location, before Sector67 prepares to move to their new permanent home just a few blocks away later this summer.
Be here to be part of an epic melt-down and menagerie of artisans, DIY'ers and makers of all sorts, as we all throw down and celebrate the hot stuff cookin' into our sand moulds lined up outside.
View this event for more info on how to get in on the action and make your own iron creation for this year's hot & heavy event.
Beginning Saturday, October 15th, I will have a rare showing of my favorite "failed castings" from the last 6 years of creating iron skillets with friends in parking lots, ally ways and urban industrial spaces around the country.
This show is happening in the now closed Fizz Bar, where my friends and I turned a dilapidated two - story brick interior into a white and super rad looking Pop Up gallery space in Chicago's Lincoln Park Neighborhood.
I'll be showing a majority portion of the skillet map to scale behind the old bar, ( rock star location for it!), alongside a stellar lineup of fellow metal casting artists and oil painters from Chicago and New York.
If you're in Chicago-land area this Saturday, October 15th, I have the pleasure of giving a brief artist talk with my good friend and insanely talented sculptor, Marshall Svendsen. I'll be discussing my cast iron process and sharing some fun stories of how these "miscastings" came to happen, and how they informed my decision to launch American Skillet Company, my second business in cookware :}
Hope you can find the time to come! If so, see ya there!!
The inaugural Midwest Fire Fest is a two day celebration of fire, art, food and music in beautiful downtown Cambridge Wisconsin. We will once again be lighting up our furnace, "FLO", to make the iron melt down and cast it into visual memories that will outlive all of us~ for generations to come! Come and be part of that experience and make something that will last several lifetimes
The first annual Madison Mini Maker Fair is happening downtown Madison, WI, and we'll be apart of the awesomness by running an aluminum pour for the event. We will be casting creations made on site by anyone who is interested that wishes to exercise their maker-potentials and design their own piece of relief sculpture. The finished pieces will be a totally unique carving that you can make from the sand moulds that we provide, which get cast into with molten aluminum.
See you around the square this Spring!
Pour'n Yer Heart Out is going on it's 7th year of mid-winter iron melting, and this next one is happening on February 6th 2016 from Noon-6pm, at Sector67 in Madison, as per usual.
Free and open to the public, we collaborate with some of Madison's best makers and businesses to throw down one of the coldest weathered, hottest iron pour events of the year. Celebrating every sparkling minute of it, we'll enjoy live music, glorious fire-side dutch oven food, local beer tastings, and of course the spectacle watching a rock-star crew of Midwestern metal artists working their little leather jackets off to melt metal in the dead of winter together. It will be fun as always!
"Pour'n Yer Heart Out"
Happening on February 7th 2015 from Noon-6pm, this year's pour might be our biggest event yet ! With the help of many amazing local collaborators, we now have an official After Party celebration to follow the day's iron pouring event. We will feature art by the participating artist's own inspirations, live music and a 6-tap take-over lead by official beer sponsor MobCraft Beer. So much going on that day, we may just forget that it's even the dead of winter altogether !
New to the schedule this year is the introduction of three individual sand mould making workshops leading up to the event. Workshops are open to the public and held January 30-February 1st, 2015. Get more info and pre-register here:
